In-Text Citation FAQ
What is an in-text citation?
An in-text citation is the short reference you place in the body of your text — usually in parentheses, e.g. (Smith, 2023) — that points readers to the full source in your reference list.
How do I cite multiple authors in-text?
For two authors, APA joins them with “&” — (Smith & Jones, 2023) — while MLA, Chicago and Harvard use “and”. For three or more authors, every style uses the first author followed by “et al.”
Does it support IEEE, Vancouver and AMA?
Yes. Numbered styles (IEEE, Vancouver, AMA) cite sources by their order of appearance — [1], (1) or a superscript number — so pick the style and enter the source number. Author-date styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard) use the author, year and page.
