Scientific Notation Converter - FAQ
How do you write a number in scientific notation?
Move the decimal point so one non-zero digit stays in front of it, and count how many places you moved - that count is the exponent. For example, 673.5 becomes 6.735 x 10^2 because the decimal moved 2 places left.
How do you convert scientific notation to standard form?
Shift the decimal point of the mantissa by the exponent - right for a positive exponent, left for a negative one. So 6.022 x 10^23 expands to 602,200,000,000,000,000,000,000.
What is E-notation?
E-notation is how calculators and computers write scientific notation, replacing times ten to the n with the letter e. For example, 6.735 x 10^2 is written 6.735e2.
